Words of Thanks — 11/14/09
We thank all of our sponsors for their generous donations to support the Raceland-Worthington High School Marching Band.
The students had a wonderful experience Nov. 6 and 7. Their hard work and dedication took them to Kentucky Music Educators Association semifinals for the first time in 12 years. They are now recognized as 12th in the state by the KMEA.
On behalf of the marching band, we thank the following sponsors: Debbie’s Hair Design, Mr. and Mrs. Brent Sturgill, Ken Blanton, Fannin Motors, Johnson's Chiropractic, Kroger of Ashland and Russell, Cannonsburg Wal-Mart, Luna’s Flower Shop, Pennington's Food Fair, Fairchild Auto Sales, Don Hall, City of Raceland, Carmichael Equipment, Stultz Pharmacy, Leadingham Eye Care Center, Bruce Blackburn, Robert W. On Saturday, Nov. 7, nearly 30 community volunteers gave of their time and efforts to help the Lawrence County Humane Society Animal Shelter.
This Volunteer Work Day is every November as part of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week. These volunteers performed many tasks needed to help prepare the shelter for winter.
It was especially heartwarming to see the number of young people who volunteered. The future of the Humane Society rests in their hands.
The Lawrence County Humane Society Board of Directors thanks each volunteer for the hard work. It also thanks Louisa Coca Cola Bottling Co. for providing the beverages and the Lawrence County Homemakers for providing the food.
For information about how you can help support the animal shelter, call (606) 673-4509 or contact Bev Pack at sixcatpack@mindspring.com or (606) 571-6224.

On behalf of Kentucky school nutrition, I thank the wonderful people of the Fairview Independent School District. As the 2009 administrator chairwoman, I had the annual administrators conference in Louisville on Oct. 19 through 21.
More than 200 child nutrition administrators throughout Kentucky attended the conference, which provided an invaluable opportunity for them to achieve more for the children of Kentucky.
It’s with much support that helped make this conference such a success.
I extend a special thank you to Superintendent Bill Musick, Brant Creech, Jason Morrison, Ernie Sharp, Janet Vanderpool, Joy Brown, Sharon Woods, Doris Pursley, Kris Adkins, Chuck Lowe and Rick Thompson. Their kind help will be long remembered.
Jo Williams, Child nutrition director, Fairview Independent School District
The Ohio Valley Reining Horse Association had a silent auction during the reining horse show on Oct. 31 at Henderson’s Arena in Jackson, Ohio. The auction’s proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the research, treatment, cure and prevention of breast cancer.
The OVRHA thanks Stultz Pharmacy, Rosie’s Salon, Becky’s Bow-Kay, Beautiful Things LLC, Aunt B’s, Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Special K Tack Shop, Wade’s Western Wear, Cooke’s Feed and Horse Supplies, Identity Hair Salon, King’s Daughters Medical Center, Bradford’s Holiday Gifts, reining horse members, spectators and others who supported this event.
It was a huge success for such a worthy cause in fighting a disease that affects 200,000 every year.
Glenda Kazee, Rebecca and Patrick Adkins, OVRHA
