Words of Thanks — 10/20/07

The Sanitation District No. 2 of Boyd County expresses its sincere thanks to Boyd County Jailer Joe Burchett, Deputy Jailer Jerry Bayless, and the men from the Boyd County Detention Center for the excellent job of cutting the weeds around our pump station.

Our pump station is inaccessible by vehicle and the weeds were so high we couldn't get to the station. Deputy Jailer Bayless brought the men down from the detention center and cleared all the brush from around the pump station. The station looks really good and we appreciate all the hard work they did.

The workers were polite and courteous when spoken to. We appreciate the community service provided by the men from the detention center.

The Greenup Lions Club thanks the many car class sponsors and those who registered their cars in the Greenup Old Fashion Days Antique Car Show. The money raised at this annual event helps the Lions Club provide eye examinations and eye glasses for those in our area who cannot afford eye care.

The Community Hospice Art for Hospice Chairs for Charity event was a great success. More than 20 very talented local artists and craftsmen contributed 30 chairs, tables, stools and mirrors that were auctioned during October’s First Friday events at the Ann Davis Gallery. The event would not have been possible without their generous donations.

Our thanks to Zoe Ann Brewer of the Ann Davis Gallery for offering her great facility for the event; to Larry Jones, president of Community Trust Bank for their continued support and sponsorship of Chairs for Charity; and to Ed Fairchild of Fairchild Real Estate and Auctioneer Services for his time and talents.

Lastly we thank all those who attended and made purchases. We’re planning for next year’s Chairs for Charity and hope you’ll be a part then, too. Thank you.

Our heartfelt thanks to Cathie Whitt, program coordinator of King’s Daughters Medical Center’s Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group; the Rev.Johnny Riley, KDMC director of pastoral care, and to KDMC for hosting the Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Ceremony on Sunday, Oct. 14 in Central Park in honor of National Stillbirth and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.

Our daughter, Grace Sophia, was born asleep on May 19, 2007. We are grateful for the opportunity to honor and remember her in a special way, and we are grateful for a community that supports parents and families, who, like us, have experienced the tragedy of losing a child.

Ashland’s first annual AAPD Disabilities Mentoring Day was Oct. 1. The Commission for Children with Special Health Care Needs in Summit Plaza was the lead agency partnering with participants from Raceland, Blazer and Fairview high schools and the Community Presence Adult Program.

Special thanks go to the CCSHCN staff. We had Teleconference with Amy Miller from A Maid for You and participants were also invited to the Cannonsburg Wal-Mart for job exploration and shadowing.
