Expect big voter turnout.

If the number of registered voters is any indication — and it should be — then a record number of people will cast their ballots in Kentucky on Nov. 4. That bodes well for representative democracy in this state.

The deadline for registering to vote before the Nov. 4 election is 4 p.m. today, but Secretary of State Trey Grayson said Friday that more people than ever are registering to vote in Kentucky.

In fact, Grayson said more people registered to vote on Sept. 15 in Kentucky than on any other day in the state’s history. However, he said he would not be surprised to see that record broken today.

At the mid-September reporting date, there were 2,894,299 registered voters in Kentucky.

Interest in this year’s presidential race is unusually high, and one hopes that will result in a record percentage of voters casting ballots on Nov. 4 — both in Kentucky and across the nation.
