Letter sways him to vote for Obama
I thank Russell Mitchell of Flatwoods for his Oct. 3 letter, “Obama’s record on gun issues.” As he suggested, I examined my Second Amendment rights and will now definitely vote for Barack Obama.

‘Yes’ vote will help bring restaurants
Thanks to the voters of Russell for signing the petition, but that was one of a two-part process. Do not assume this issue will pass because of the number of signatures gathered. Voting is the only way to ensure Russell will be able to attract these restaurants.
I support business development. I know what everyone in business knows. If you want to increase business, you must open avenues and not close them. If you want to increase revenue and build an infrastructure for future business growth, change is the next step.
Russell sits in a pocket of population with some of the highest household income levels and traffic counts in our region. We all know of the recent missed opportunities, and my question is will we continue to watch everything grow around Russell. Your vote Nov. 4 will answer that question.
Steve Blair, Citizens for a Progressive Russell
Hogsten is what Ashland needs
Tom Kelley retired as police chief in the midst of a scandal in the police department. A lawsuit is still pending.
Chris Hammond didn’t decide to run until the mayor announced his pending resignation. I want someone who can make a decision when needed, instead of after the fact.
Paula Hogsten is retired and has more time to serve the public. She was involved in efforts to deal with crime and other problems of east Ashland long before she was elected to office as a commissioner and continues to be involved. Every time I've called her with a problem, she has either given me the answer or promised to get back to me. I've never had to call her twice.
That’s what Ashland needs. Someone who will be involved and really listen, a mayor who cares about everyone.
Sylvia McClelland-Morrison, Ashland
