On behalf of the board and staff of Safe Harbor, I thank the Boyd County Medical Alliance for hosting our first “Lobster Fest” to benefit victims of domestic violence.
Susan Fried was chairperson for our first fundraising event. What a success it was. Special thanks go to the Alliance committee: Vicki Borders, Lynn Couchot, Susan Fried, Lisa Justice and Heather Van Deren and to the board members who chaired sub-committees: Alison Christie, Dianne Clement, Bruce Davis, and Marty Vannatter. Kim Leonberg was also an active committee member.
Many thanks to board members and staff who gave their time, donated auction items and helped make this event so memorable.
Proceeds will help us to renovate the first floor of Harbor Hill. It will offer 34 supportive living apartments. This completes the Continuum of Care for victims of domestic violence. Most importantly, this project offers hope for women and their children.
Ann Perkins, Executive Director, Safe Harbor

The Paramount Woman’s Association had its First Annual Ladies Golf Scramble Aug. 18 at Bellefonte Country Club. I thank the many golfers and sponsors for their contributions. Jeff Bostic, pro at BCC, and the staff made the day enjoyable.
I thank my committee: Karen Radjunas, Thelma Quade and Sheri Seagraves. More importantly, I thank the 40 participating ladies and our corporate sponsors: Community Trust Bank, Community Trust and Investment Company, K-D-DID, LCC, Natural Resource Partners,L.C., Don Hall GM SuperCenter, Tri-State Rail Services, Great Lakes Minerals, Shaffer and Shaffer Family Dentistry and the Overhead Door Company of New Bern, N.C. The Gallaher Group and Young Signs provided signs.
I thank our 31 hole sponsors and 30 door prize sponsors from the Tri-State and North Carolina. The PWA appreciates the continual support of these individuals and companies.
We look forward to next year’s ladies golf scramble.
Jacque Brownstead , Golf Scramble Chairperson

I thank all who participated in making the visitation and funeral for Chuck and Denise Leadingham a special event. As a Patriot Guard Senior Kentucky Ride Captain, it was evident how well respected and loved Chuck and Denise were by the number of people who came to show their respect.
On behalf of the Patriot Guard members, I thank KFC and Penn Station for providing food for our members. That contribution made standing for up to nine hours much easier.
The Patriot Guard are men and women who often travel to stand, flag in hand, in honor of veterans, law enforcement officers, and/or EMS workers, to say, “Thank you for your service. We appreciate all you have given."
I’m proud to ride and stand with these kinds of people. This is what we do, and we do it with dignity, honor, and respect.
Thomas Epperly, Senior Ride Captain, Patriot Guard Riders, Ashland
