Democrats can’t back up the talk

At $2.30 a gallon, Democrats promised America “a common sense plan to bring down skyrocketing gas prices.” We all know what’s happened since then. The problem with most Democrats is that they love to pursue positions of power, but when it’s in their grasp, they simply have no idea of how to get anything done. They talk a good game but can’t back it up.

Since taking over control of Congress last year, Democrats have delivered nothing but all-time record low approval ratings, partisan bickering, childish finger-pointing and incessant whining. They’re a bunch of useless bums (I apologize to real bums who may be offended by comparison to such nincompoops).

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are perfect examples. They make a big deal out of being in charge, but both are embarrassingly incompetent. After making exaggerated promises in order to get elected, they have produced zilch.

But, instead of blaming Democrats for failing to carry out their agenda, I join those who blame Democrats for having an agenda that isn’t worthy of carrying out in the first place, such as cutting and running from Iraq, mass amnesty for 20 million Mexican gate-crashers, increased tax rates for hard-working Americans, socialized government provided health care and, as gasoline heads toward $5 a gallon, the continued obstruction to sensible domestic oil production in a country blessed with an abundance of resources.

We’ve now watched as Democrat geniuses have swept a not-yet-one-term senator with zero accomplishments into a presidential nomination on absolutely nothing but a wave of bumper sticker emotion.

For those who expect a certain degree of intellectual judgment from the American electorate, it’s cause for hope, but if you are inclined to prayer and haven't started, now would be a good time.

Group is again filling backpacks

Stop for a minute and remember your first day of school throughout the years. Remember how you couldn’t wait to go back-to-school shopping? How the night before you could not figure out what to wear so you called your friends to see what they were wearing and double checked that you had all the necessary school supplies.

Unfortunately, there are many kids today that don’t get to experience all the excitement of the first day of school. Instead, they are hoping to have something to wear and maybe scrounge up some pencils and paper for the first day of school.

Every child deserves the opportunity to experience the excitement of making a good impression on the first day of school, so the Ashland Alliance Young Professionals once again is working with Greenup and Boyd County schools (Ashland city schools, Raceland, Russell, Greenup, Boyd) to fill backpacks for underprivileged children.

We have 900 backpacks to fill for the local schools. Currently, we still need around 150 to be filled.

Our community has been wonderful about helping this cause. In little over a week, 750 names were adopted. We ask that the backpacks are filled with the necessary school supplies, a new outfit and new shoes if people feel like they can afford the cost.

If you are interested in helping a child but feel like you don’t have time to shop, then you can make a tax-deductible monetary donation. If you would like more information or would like to sponsor a child please call me at (606) 922-8283 or (606)325-8845.
