Thumbs up to the Kentucky State Police in Henderson for attempting to hold two parents accountable for their dangerously irresponsible actions that led to the injury of a 5-year-old boy who fell off an ATV.
The KSP arrested the two parents on charges of wanton endangerment.
According to the police report, the 5-year-old boy was riding on an all terrain vehicle operated by a 14-year-old girl when the boy fell from the back of the vehicle, breaking his arm. Also riding on the same vehicle was a 2-year-old boy.
We find it totally irresponsible for parents to allow such young children to ride on an ATV speeding over rough terrain. The fact that a young teen was driving the vehicle only compounds the danger.
One of the parents charged in the incident is the father of the young girl driving the vehicle. The other parent is the mother of both the 5-year-old and the 2-year-old riding on the ATV.
Maybe the three children riding on the ATV were too young to know better. But their parents should have known better. They should accept responsibility for their actions, accept their punishment and be thankful that the child only suffered a broken arm. It could have been much worse.
