Words of Thanks— 04/04/09
Community Hospice offers many thanks for the success of our Spring Style Show and Luncheon.
We appreciate the support of our sponsors: McMeans Pharmacy and the Putnam Agency. Community Trust Bank was a table sponsor.
A style show would not be possible without fashion retailers: A Boutique, Belk’s, Christopher & Banks, CJ Banks, Lara’s Bridals and Formals, The Pink Pineapple and Wilma’s Dress Shop. Fifty models volunteered to show off these great fashions.
Miss Kentucky Emily Cox did an outstanding job as our mistress of ceremonies. Other contributors were Copy Collection, Merle Norman of Ironton, Bellefonte Country Club, South Ashland Florist and Greenhouse, Avon representative Heather Hiscock, and Linda Leach/Triple L Enterprise.
We must not forget our 175 guests who attended. It is with the continued support of the communities we serve that Community Hospice can provide quality end-of-life care to all those in need. Thank you.
Elizabeth V. (Beth) Taylor, Director of Development and Community Relations, Community Hospice
We want people to know about our recent experience at King’s Daughters Medical Center. Our daughter, Amanda, was expecting her first child in April. Upon completion of her shift at KDMC one night, co-workers told her she didn’t look well. Her blood pressure was dangerously high.
She was admitted. The doctor on duty, Dr. Dotson, said the baby should be delivered quickly. An emergency C-section was done.
We appreciate Dr. Dotson explaining everything to us. Amanda’s regular doctor, Dr. Fredrick, was just as compassionate and caring.
Amanda spent nine nights in the hospital. These nurses provided excellent care: Jennifer Miller, Floye Sherman, Leslie Wright, Kathy Spence, Sherie Knapp, Judy York, Char Love, Kristin Wright, Janet Hall, Jenny Conley, Pam Banks, Cindy Deerfield.
We thank J.D. and Robert for not allowing Amanda to go hom that first night. Amanda and Christopher are now doing well at home.

I thank my sponsors, Matt and Linda Dalton, and their area businesses for their role in the 2009 Community Benefit Volleyball Tournament. I also thank all of the volunteers who donated their time to help make the tournament a huge success.
Each year we try to make the tournament a little better, and with all the help and sponsorships, I think we’ve succeeded! As we think about our tournament motto — “You can’t help everybody everywhere but you can help sombody somewhere” — we’re reminded that a little effort goes a long way when you’re helping somebody in need.
I also thank Enterprise Baptist Church in Westwood for use of its facilities for the tournament.
Rodney Sparks, director, Community Benefit Volleyball Tournament
We thank the following businesses for their donations to the recent Love Your Neighbor Lunch at Advance United Methodist Church: Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital Foundation, H.T. Hackney Company, Stultz Pharmacy, King’s Daughters Meddical Center, Penn Station, Scott’s Furniture, All Tech Container Services, WLGC, Texas Roadhouse, Time Warner Cable, Miller Funeral Home, Michael C. Wilson, Super Quik of Flatwoods, Ohio Valley Wholesale, Evans Funeral Home, Carman Funeral Home, Caniff Funeral Home, Bob Meenach State Farm Insurance.
We also thank the nearly 90 individuals who were instrumental in making the luncheon a success by donating items as well as assisting in planning, setting up, serving and coordinating transportation with church vans.
It was a wonderful day for many individuals, who left with much more than they came with, which was our goal.
Gail Melvin and Margaret King, Love Your Neighbor Committee
I thank the gentleman who returned my purse that I had left at the Cannonsburg Wal-Mart. The purse was left in my buggy in the parking lot.
Upon returning to Wal-Mart and not locating the purse, my friend suggsted I go back in the store and ask about it. When I did, the lady who checked me out said she was glad I came back because some gentleman had returned my purse.
Although I don’t know his name, I thank the man very much. It’s good to know there are still some honest people.
Mary Young, Ashland
