ASHLAND — Rose Marie “Aunt Re” Hayes, 91, of Ashland, passed away Friday morning in Kingsbrook Lifecare Center.

Rose was born Jan. 4, 1922, in Lawrence County, a daughter of the late Harrison and Sara Jane Dixon Hayes.  

Rose had a proud past as a “Rosie the Riviter” of WWII in San Diego, Calif. She would rivet war planes together. This led her to a career as an Engine Manufacturer with Wrights Aeronautical Corp. in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a member of the Newport, American Legion, Unit 11, former Eastern Star Member in Newport and a 40-year Avon representative and sales manager.

Proceeding her in death, in addition to her parents, were two brothers, Elster and Hubert Hayes; and two sisters, Sylvia Jane Cremeans of Vienna, Ohio, and Minnie Preston.

Surviving Rose is one daughter, Melanie Jane Plagge (J. Timothy) of Cincinnati, Ohio; two brothers, Homer Hayes of Columbus, and Walter Hayes (Joyce) of  Greenup; one sister, Anna Ruth Rhinehardt of Columbus,Ohio; and a special great-niece, Mia Sutton (Leonard) of Ashland.

 The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Preston Family Funeral Home by Dean Jackson, Minister. Burial will follow at Hayes Family Cemetery in Louisa.
