Betty L. Greene - 1928-2012

ASHLAND — Betty L. Greene, 84, of Ashland, passed from this life to be with her heavenly father on Dec. 10, 2012.  

Betty was born July 19, 1928, to the late J. Mitchell and Hattie Maynard.   

She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Virginia O’Mara and Margarit Roberts.   

She was a 1946 graduate of Ashland High School. She worked for the Kentucky State Employment Office, where she met her future husband, William J. Greene, who survives. They were married in 1948. They were blessed with three children from this union, Rebecca S. Allen (Jerry), John William Greene (Eugeni) and Teresa Slone (Mike). They were blessed with five grandchildren, Jeremy Allen, Ryan Slone, Lauren Evans, Whitney Jones and Emily Greene.  

Betty was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, Chase Allen, Dylan Allen, Karli Jones and Jack Evans.

She also worked for Second National Bank and First American Bank, from which she retired after 25 years of service. Betty was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Ashland for more than 60 years.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Tom Hall. Entombment will be in Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.   

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and an hour before services Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in her memory be sent to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101 or the Gideons, P.O. Box 188, Ashland, KY 41105-0188.
