Florida Memorial Gardens
Jean Overton Woods’ spirit departed this life on Nov. 15, 2013, at the age of 88. Having long believed in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, Jean is continuing her residence with Him eternally in heaven.
Jean was born July 19, 1925, in Ashland, to James and Ica Hicks Woods. She graduated from Russell High School in 1942 and then attended business school. Jean lived and worked as a secretary in various places and for various industries. During the 1940s, she worked for J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI in Washington, D.C., after which she worked in Ashland for James Ryan, insurance adjuster; in New Orleans for Shoreline Drilling; in Cape Canaveral, Fla., for Lockheed; and in Pompano Beach, Fla., for Robert Cochran, estate attorney. She retired and recently returned to Brevard County, Fla., and was living in Titusville, Fla.
“Aunt” Jean did not marry or have children, but was a beloved family member and friend. Surviving family includes a sister, Bev (Bob) Wood; nieces and nephews Mick (Janine) Wood, Kate (Eric) Stevenson, Melissa (Tom) Rose, Vicki (Mel) Regoli, Evan (Anna) Oulashin and Erica (Ron) Aaserude; great-nieces and great-nephews Shane and Celeste, Eric and Sean and Sarah and Noelle; and special cousins Drema Gwinn and Emma Manning.
Her body shall reside in Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge following a few words by Pastor Howard Davis at 10 a.m. today, Nov. 20, 2013, at the chapel and graveside.
