Doris Leslie - 1926-2012

GREENUP — Doris Anne Cole Leslie, 86, of Greenup, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.

She was born in Van Leer on Oct. 11, 1926, to A. Bruce & Beatrice Lyon Cole.

She retired from Pathways, Inc., where she established the Greenup County offices for their mental health services. She also founded their alcohol and drug abuse treatment services and was instrumental in the establishment of their women’s shelter. Doris was nationally recognized for the substance abuse treatment programs she managed. She was a member of the Greenup Christian Church, a member of the Greenup County Democratic Party and the Red Hats. Doris also served on the Greenup County Tourism board and was involved with the restoration of the historic home, the McConnell House. Other volunteer activities included the Paramount Arts Center and Hospice.   

She was preceded in death by her parents and in 2003, by her husband, James Robert Leslie.

She is survived by a son, Phillip Bruce Leslie and his wife, Leannah of Bellefonte; a daughter, Anne Leslie Stevens and her husband, Gary, of Chapel Hill N.C.; a granddaughter, Allison Anne Allred and her husband, Eric, of Gilbert, Ariz.; a grandson, James Brett Leslie and his wife, Rebecca of Nashville Tenn.; a great-granddaughter, LeslieAnna Allred; a great-grandson, Caleb Charles Allred (born Dec. 28, 2012); and a brother, Bill Cole and his wife, Annette, of Golden, Colo.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the Greenup Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwood.  Services for Doris will be conducted by Brother Charles Lee.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Arizona State University campus ministry of Mrs. Leslie’s granddaughter, Allison Leslie Allred.
