ASHLAND — Richard T. “Dick” Brown, 98, of Ashland, passed away on Thursday Nov. 15, 2012, at Woodland Oaks Health Care Center. He was born Nov. 25, 1913, in Rushsylvania, Ohio, the son of the late Charles and Minnie Kerns Brown.

They subsequently moved to Richwood, Ohio, where he lived until after graduation from high school. Dick played football there several years during his school years. Dick left Richwood and came to Ashland in 1933 and was employed by AK Steel, then Armco, from April 28, 1933, until his retirement on May 31, 1976, which gave him 43 years and 1 month with the same company. He was a mill representative. On Jan. 4, 1935, he married Nora Belle Yates and they had a daughter, Julia. Dick became a Kentucky colonel on March 10, 1969. The family attended the First United Methodist Church in Ashland. Dick enjoyed golfing and fishing.

Nora Belle passed away on Feb. 25, 2001. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Linville and Harry Brown; sisters, Grace Park, Ethel Yarrington, Willmetta Simmons and their husbands. Surviving is a daughter, Julia Leatherman and husband Nolan of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to give thanks to Ms. Linda Cornwell who looked after him over the last 12 years.

The funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. John Street. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery in Louisa.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
