Gene W. Litteral - 1930-2013

WESTWOOD — Gene W. Litteral, 82, of Westwood, entered into eternal rest at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland on Thursday,  July 4, 2013, with family at his side.

Mr. Litteral was born in Johnson County on Oct. 4, 1930, and was the son of the late Harrison Powell and Alice Litteral. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Opha Bailey Litteral, on Feb. 24, 2012, whom he married on Jan. 11, 1947, and were together for 65 years. He is also preceded in death by an infant son, John Harrison Litteral, infant daughter, Mary Lou Litteral and daughter, Donna Litteral Black; brothers, James Litteral, Taylor Litteral and Bill Litteral; and sisters, Matilda Perkins and Lucille Green.

He was a former coal miner and owner of the Westwood Lawn Service and was a member of the Danleyton Independent United Baptist Church.  He was a member of the Litteral Family Singers who traveled and sang at many different churches throughout the Tri-State from 1980 to 1993. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing bluegrass gospel music.

Survivors include four sons, Larry (Barbara) Litteral, Jimmy Litteral, Gary (Janey) Litteral, all of Ashland, and Phillip (Joan) Litteral of Webbville; one daughter, Jessie (Bob) Hensley of Grayson; six grandchildren, Lari Litteral Hoffman, Scott Litteral, Karey (Keith) Ison, Josh Litteral, Jessie Litteral and Lauren Litteral; and seven great-grandchildren, Blake, Brittany, Brayden and Emma Ison, Davis Hoffman, Jeff Stanley and Rialeigh Litteral.

Visitation for friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home by Danny Clarkston, minister. Burial will be in the Dixon Cemetery in Westwood.
