Phillip Woodrow Whisman, 81, of Athens, Tenn., passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, in Fort Sanders Select Specialty Medical Center in Knoxville, Tenn.
Mr. Whisman was born March 1, 1932, in Elliott County, the son of the late Robert and Lula Skaggs Whisman. He was also preceded in death by a brother, William Robert Whisman, and three sisters, Donna Kasprznski, Della Wolfe and Mabel Graves.
He retired from the General Motors Corp. in 1988. He enjoyed golf, fishing and hunting and was an expert marksman.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Alice Lambert Whisman; a daughter, Wilma and husband Ted Banach of Chesterfield, Mich.; a son, Phillip Whisman Jr. of Virginia; two grandchildren, Sheila and husband Nick Allen of Knoxville and Heather and husband David Houbre of Knoxville; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Jesse Purnell of Chillicothe, Ohio, Jewel and husband Red Maccagnone of Michigan, Delma and husband Leo Simmons of Michigan and Laura “Tootsie” and husband Jessie Jenkins of Elliott County.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook by Brother Rick Lewis and Brother Franklin Gilliam. Burial will be in Whisman Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
