CATLETTSBURG — Stephen David Caniff, 58, husband of Vickie McKenzie Caniff of Catlettsburg, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013.

Steve was born Sept. 15, 1955, in Ashland, to Robert and Barbara Stephens Caniff of Flatwoods.

He worked as a salesman for HT Hackney in Ashland. Steve was an avid golfer. He was a former sports official and received accolades in 2001 for officiating the Kentucky State High School Football Championship. Steve was a dedicated sports fan with a history of coaching and loyally supporting local youth sports. His most treasured role in life was being a family man and a father and papaw to his children and grandchildren, who were the light of his life.  

Also surviving are two sons, David Caniff and his wife, Amanda, of Flatwoods and Jimmy Caniff and his wife, Jessica, of Richmond; a daughter, Ashley Harmon and her husband, Aaron, of Ashland; a brother, Rob (Cindy) Caniff of Russell; a sister, Melissa (Jim) Riggle of Muncie, Ind.; two precious granddaughters, Paige Harmon and Nola Caniff, and anxiously awaiting the birth of his first grandson; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Russell Middle School, by Jim Riggs.  

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today and an hour before services Saturday at the school.  

Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood is in charge of arrangements.
