CATLETTSBURG — John Henry Howard, 87, of Catlettsburg, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2013, in King’s Daughters Medical Center following an extended illness.

He was born Sept. 25, 1926, in Greenup County, a son of the late K.B. and Berta Howard. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Howard, a sister, Mary Edna Hamilton, and a granddaughter, Sherri Watts Hay.

John was of the Baptist faith. He retired after 25 years from Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 248. Following his retirement, he owned and operated John’s Lawnmower Shop for 15 years. He enjoyed fishing and selling vegetables.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Barbara Romans Howard of Catlettsburg; two daughters, Mary C. Watts of Westwood and Patricia Wilburn of Ashland; brothers Bill Howard of Ivan and Russell Howard of Frankfort; sisters Sarah Moore of Ashland, Bonnie Bryan of Argillite and Linda Carol of Ohio; grandchildren John Watts of Cincinnati and Billy Watts of Ashland; great-grandchildren Brittany Watts, Jacob Calhoun, Dax Watts, Gaige Watts and Trace Watts, all of Ashland; and a host of loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 6, 2013, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel by the Rev. Jason Porter and the Rev. Roger Riley. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
