Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home
On Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, Harold Austin “Cookie” Pancake, 89, of Ironton, died in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
The Ironton native was born Aug. 20, 1924, in Hecla, the son of the late Rev. Clell O. and Maude Delong Pancake.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Hessie A. Stewart Pancake; two sisters, Alberta Keaton and Verna Webb; two brothers, Golden Pancake and Francis Pancake; two grandchildren, Staci Jo Stevens and Austin (Randy) Pancake; and a son-in-law, Daniel M. Stevens.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, a lifetime member of the Lawrence County Bow Hunters Club and an avid hunter and fisherman. He retired after 36 years from Allied Chemical (Ironton Coke Plant).
He is survived by Barbara and Curt Stevens of Hecla, Harold Ken Pancake of Pedro, Dianna Stevens of Russell, Ky., Brenda and Lester Ross of Hecla, Beverly Pancake and Ronnie Stidham of Russell, Mike and Christy Pancake of Kenova, W.Va., and Jerry and Cheryl Pancake of Ironton; 39 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
We would like to give special recognition to Ronnie Stidham for the loving care he provided the last few years.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home in Ironton by Brother David Schug. Burial will be in Sugar Creek Cemetery, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 8850.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Stevens, Donald Pancake, Dale Kidd, Alan Ross, Chris Smith and Jerry Pancake Jr. Honorary pallbearer will be Randy Pancake.
