Joyce “Jody” Thacker - 1930-2013

DURBIN — Joyce A. “Jody” Thacker, 82, of Durbin, passed away Thursday morning, Aug. 1, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Joyce was born to the late William and Ethel Hicks McKnight in Durbin.  

She was preceded in death by her dear husband of 63 years, Joseph Thacker in 2009.  

Joyce worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Foodland and she warmed many hearts as a hostess at Catlettsburg McDonalds. She was a faithful member of Cyrus Chapel, where she served as the secretary and treasurer and was a member of the Willing Workers. Joyce was a loving, devoted mother who enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family. She was canning just this month.

She is survived by her children, Joe Ed Thacker and wife Betty and their daughter, Angela, of Ashland, Donna Thacker Blair and her husband, Gerald and their daughters, Tammy and Hope, of Cannonsburg, Kime Sue Thacker Blair and her husband, Wordie, and their son, Britton, of Ashland; six great-grandchildren, Faith, Seth, Jacob, Blair, Abigail and  Chloe; a brother, Henry McKnight of Catlettsburg; a sister, Linda Trapp and her husband, Melville, of Apopka, Fla.

She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Bill Thacker; her brothers, Billy McKnight, Richard McKnight, Sammy McKnight and Eddie McKnight; and her sister, Maxine McKnight.

Services honoring her life will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home, on Panola St. in Catlettsburg. The Rev. Everett Stevens and the Rev. Joe Webb will officiate. Burial will follow in Thacker Cemetery in Durbin.   

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 4, 2013, at the funeral home.
