Lewis “Red” Geyer - 1924-2013

SUMMIT — Lewis Edward “Red” Geyer, 89, of Summit, passed away Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, surrounded by his loving family.

Lewis was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Greenup County, to the late Albert and Cora Bullion Geyer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his precious and loving daughter, Linda Lou Geyer in 1992; sisters Myrtle Hart, Jane Cordial and Virgie Anne Gillenwater; brothers Charles Henry Geyer, George Lee Geyer, John Dee Geyer, Albert Geyer Jr., Cecil Willard Geyer, Curtis Douglas Geyer, Walter S. Geyer, Robert Hurley Geyer, Paul F. Geyer, Carlos Geyer and James Elwood Geyer; and a great-grandson, David Slone.

Lewis is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Doris “Dot” Swank Geyer of Summit; two loving sons, Jimmie L. (Deborah) Geyer and Richard E. (Vickie) Geyer, all of Ashland; sisters Margaret Kelley, Goldie Capps and Arminta Rice; brother, Herman Ray Geyer; 12 grandchildren, Amy Kitchen, Barbie Geyer Moore, Patsy (Charlie) Evans, Leigh Anne (Shane) Geyer Bryant, Robert Kitchen, Mat Kitchen, Seth Kitchen, Jimmie Geyer Jr., Adam (Ashley) Kitchen, Lalonie Akers, April (Mike) Sammons and Gene Ratcliff; a very special cousin, Krystal Hicks; great-grandchildren, Chase Moore, Drew Johnston, Holly Bryant, Scarlett Jade Kitchen, Jimmie L. Geyer III, Allison Geyer, Jeffery Moore, Katlyn Evans, Kristen Evans, Ashley Clouse, Amanda McKay, Austen Akers, Emma Akers, Zack Kitchen, Dakota Kitchen, Brandon Brown, Zachery Kitchen, Amelia Grace Sammons and Kemper Ashton Ratcliff; great-great-grandchildren, Clay Clouse and Chloe Clouse; and a host of extended family and friends.

Lewis was a loving, caring and giving man who loved his family. Lewis loved to farm and did so his entire life. In his last years, he enjoyed raising a beautiful garden and loved to give away the fruits of his labor. He always enjoyed sharing stories with and will be greatly missed by his entire family and many friends. Heaven gained an angel, but the world lost a truly great man who was one of a kind.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood by Pastor Ronald Adkins. Burial will be in Kirby Flats Cemetery on Ky. 5.  

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 1, 2013, at the funeral home.
