ASHLAND — Virginia “Jenny” Bowling Hanners, 96, of Ashland, died Friday, March 15, 2013, in Kingsbrook Lifecare Center in Ashland.

She was born Aug. 10, 1916, in Greenup County, the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Elizabeth McCarthy Bowling.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Historical Society.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Arnold Hanners; five sisters, Carrie Lee Blevins, Kathleen Allen, Goldie Sparks, Myrtle Evans and Lucille Slusher; two brothers, Dennis Bowling and Ernest Bowling; and two special nieces, Peggy Joan Jones and Jean C. Powell.

Survivors include two nephews, Robert (Bernadette) Slusher of Fairview and Talmadge (Dee) Hanners of Kentucky; three great-nephews, Bob Slusher, Kevin (Terry) Slusher and Greg Jones; two great-nieces, Laura Slusher (Dennis) Hodges and  Jenny (Rob) Poole; one great-great-niece, Morgan Nuville Poole; and special friend, Jo Foreman.  

The family would like to thank all the nurses and aides at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center for their loving care of Jenny.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum by the Rev. John Street, with burial immediately following.

There will be no visitation.
