David Wilson “Buzz” Shepherd Jr. 1939-2014

CATLETTSBURG — David Wilson “Buzz” Shepherd Jr., 75, of Catlettsburg, went home to hear “Welcome home, my good and faithful servant” Wednesday, July 2, 2014, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

Buzz was born Feb. 14, 1939, in Ashland to the late David Wilson and Dorothy Vanhorn Shepherd.  

He married the love of his life Aug. 30, 1964, Kay Buskirk Shepherd and their lives were blessed with two precious children, Amy and David Matthew. He graduated from Ashland High School and went on to serve his country honorably in the Navy. He worked for Armco Steel as a Millwright, was a member of Poage Masonic Lodge,  Shriners and the “Hillbilly Clan.” He loved the Lord and was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Russell.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Kay, and their children, Amy and her husband, Lucien Battiste of Snellville, Ga. and MAC David Matthew Shepherd of Lancaster; grandson, Lucien Battiste Jr.; one brother, Larry F. Shepherd of Flatwoods; one sister-in-law, Debra J. (Kenny) Horrall of Waddy; granddogs, Sophie, Lola, The Boog, Brandi, Snickers, Jake and Charger.

The funeral services to celebrate his life will be at 1 p.m. today, July 5, 2014, at the First Baptist Church of Russell, 901 Ashland Drive, and Pastor Ken Gowin will officiate the services. Masonic services will begin at noon by the Poage Masonic Lodge. Final resting place will be in Ashland Cemetery with military honors by Post 93 of Kenova, W.Va., and the U.S. Navy Honors Team.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. until service time today at First Baptist Church of Russell.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to AARF, (Ashland Animal Rescue Fund), 4845 Powers Road, Ashland, KY 41101.

Kilgore Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg is in charge of arrangements.
