Rosa Raye Cox Daniel Brooks 1926-2013

ASHLAND — Rosa Raye Cox Daniel Brooks, passed away in Palm Garden Nursing Home, in  Vero Beach, Fla., on July 25, 2013, at the age of 86.

Mrs. Brooks was born Nov. 21, 1926, in Crystal, in Estill County.

A 1945 graduate of Ashland High School, Rosa also trained at the Ashland School of Commerce. She then began working at the Budget Fiscal Office of Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. Rosa retired from Calgon Corporation in Catlettsburg after 25 years of service. She was a member of Beech Street Christian Church in Ashland.

Rosa Raye was preceded in death by her husband, Carl F. Brooks; parents, Della M. Cole Cox and Willie F. Cox Sr.; son, Gene S. Daniel Jr.; grandson, Vincent Daniel; great-granddaughter, Cassie Daniel; two brothers, Roy B. “Dutch” Cox and Larry J. Cox; and sister, Anna Faye Elkins.

Rosie lived her life in a manner that we would all do well to emulate. She was always happy by nature, regardless of the circumstances. She met life’s disappointments and adversity with a smile on her face, and her eternal faith that God’s will shall prevail. She served as an inspiration to the young people who always seemed drawn to her. All were welcomed into her home and into her life, and regardless of the time, we were always encouraged to sit down, have a bite to eat and talk a while. Her optimism and goodness, and especially her smile, were contagious. Her influence on so many friends and family continues still today. Memories of her spirit, her unconditional love and her wonderful sense of humor will remain with us forever.

Rosie leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her son, Terry R. Daniel and his wife, Brenda, of Worthington; daughter Sally A. Virgin and husband Russ of Sebastian, Fla.; brother Willie F. Cox of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; and her sister, Gwen Estep of Ashland; her seven grandchildren and families, Terry R. Daniel Jr., Brian K. Daniel, Laurie A. Virgin Zydonik, Nathan R. Virgin, Randy Daniel, Robbie Daniel and  Josh Daniel; and her 10 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July, 30, 2013, at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland by Pastor Kenneth Vaughn. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 29, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Beech Street Christian Church Life Center in Ashland.
