Jeanette Barker - 1931-2010

RACELAND — Jeanette Barker, 79, of Raceland, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Mrs. Barker was born June 13, 1931, in  Wurtland, Ky., a daughter of the late Archie C. and Nola Whitt Adams. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, James T. “Bones” Barker; one sister, Dorothy “Dot” French; and two brothers, Elwood “Woody” Adams and Ishmael “Pete” Adams.

She was a retired receptionist for Dr. W. C. Littleton and Dr. George E. Lovelace, former owner of Raceland Grocery, member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Raceland, Red Hat Society and the Eastern Star, and was an Avon representative.

Surviving are one daughter, Susan (Tom E.) Francis of Worthington, Ky.; one son, Dr. James T. (Mary) Barker of Hickory, N.C.; four sisters, Charlotte Adams Holt of Wurtland, Ky., Gay Nicely of Raceland, Ky., Betty Gayhart of Winchester, Ky., and Shirley “Ann” Yates of Virginia; one brother, Terry “Scott” (Martha) Adams of Flatwoods, Ky.; three grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth (Chad) Gabbard and Rachel Jeanette (Jered) Ferguson, both of Russell, Ky., and Abby Susan Francis of Worthington, Ky.; and two great-grandchildren, Olivia Grace Gabbard and Ava Elizabeth Gabbard, both of Russell, Ky.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Ky., by the Rev. Paul Neal and the Rev. Bob Sweeney. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Ky.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice, American Cancer Society or to the Grace United Methodist Church in Raceland.
