Mildred Jo Brewer Harper, 81, of Ashland, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 9, 1931, in Poca, W.Va., the daughter of the late Wilmer and Ramah Melton Brewer.
She retired from nursing in 1985 from King’s Daughters Medical Center. She attended First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Meade Station Church of God.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Kay Harper Thomas; four brothers, Tom Brewer, Jackie Brewer, James Brewer and Woodson Brewer; and three sisters, Mary Persinger, Betty Hypes and Claudine “Pete” Westfall.
She is survived by three daughters, Jerry Ann Riley (Larry) of South Point, Ohio, Teddy Harper Jobe (Mike Simmons) of Ashland and Audrey Sue Bailey (Wallace) of Ashland; a sister, Jean Meeks of Hometown, W.Va.; a brother, Bill Brewer of Rock Branch, W.Va.; a son-in-law, Norris Thomas of Rush; seven grandchildren, Larry Harper Woods (Michelle Young) of Ashland, Mary Beth Woods Brackman (Steve) of High Point, N.C., Christie Jo Thomas Davis (Leon) of Lexington, Amy Thomas Sperry (Jake) of Cannonsburg, Shelby Bailey Hall (Paul) of Ashland, Cory Simmons of Ashland and Lacy Simmons Stevens of Ashland; 12 great-grandchildren; special nieces Jean Lee Roush of Las Vegas and Judy Anthony of Eleanor, W.Va.; a special friend, Kenneth Morriss of Ashland; and a good friend, Ann Scaggs McGinnis of Haverhill, Ohio.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland by Dr. Ike Nicholson. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
