Elmer Haskel Mullins Sr. 1917-2013

GREENUP — Elmer Haskel Mullins Sr., 96, of Russell, passed away peacefully at Trinity Station in Flatwoods with his family by his side on May 18, 2013.

He was born Jan. 24, 1917, at Hellier, to the late James and Delphia Ratliff-Mullins.

Mr. Mullins was a retired engineer with the C&O Railroad, where he worked for 42 years. Elmer was a past master for Thomas C. Cecil Masonic Lodge in Pikeville. He and his wife were past worthy patron and worthy matron of Anna O. Young Order of Eastern Star. Mr. Mullins enjoyed many things in life, such as woodworking and tinkering with crafts. Mr. Mullins was a member of Raceland Christian Church for seven years. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and extended family and friends.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eliza Mullins, in 2010; a sister, Eunice Patton; and three brothers, Houston, Chester and Ulis Mullins.

Left behind to cherish his memory are two sons, Dr. Elmer H. Mullins Jr. and wife Margaret Ann of Russell and Alan Mullins and wife Jeanna of Frankfort; two daughters, Betty Allen and husband Harry of Aurora, Colo., and Janice Elswick and husband Toby of Lebanon, Ohio; two sisters, Lois Layne and Norma Robinson; a brother, Roscoe Mullins; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods, with words of comfort to be delivered by Pastor Sam Guilliams. There will be a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Annie E. Young Cemetery in Shelbiana, under the direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home in Pikeville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Raceland Christian Church, 210 Caroline Road, Raceland, KY 41169.
