Rhoda Porter Harper, 75, of Grayson, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 19, 1937, in Elliott County, a daughter of the late Roy H. and Carrie Casteel Porter. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Billy G. Harper.
Rhoda was a member of Stinson Church of Christ and Eastern Star Chapter 10. She worked at the Carter County nursing home for more than 10 years and was an Avon representative for more than 35 years. She enjoyed sewing and spending time with family and friends, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rhoda is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Rick) McGlone; three sons, Rob (Jeannie Jo), Dane and Jody Harper, all of Grayson; two sisters; Juanita Kennedy and Rosella Porter, both of Grayson; three brothers, Roy (Rebecca) Porter of Huntsville, Ala., Sammy (Carolyn) Porter of Grayson and Jerry (Judy) Porter of Grayson; four grandchildren, Shanna (Mark) Coleman of Lexington, Chandra Harper, Britany Harper and Madison Harper, all of Grayson; and four great-grandchildren, Deakon Porter of Grayson, Sterling Coleman, Porter Coleman and Harper Coleman, all of Lexington.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson by Minister Tim Carper. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens in Grayson.
Pallbearers will be Rob, Dane and Jody Harper, Rick McGlone, Mark Coleman and Ryan Porter. Honorary pallbearers will be Deakon Porter and Sterling and Porter Coleman.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, May 17, 2013, at the funeral home.
