Clarence Griffith - 1922-2013

GREENUP — Clarence Griffith, 90, of Greenup, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, in Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Griffith was born Sept. 14, 1922, in Greenup, a son of the late Henry and Amanda Conley Griffith.

He was retired from AK Steel in Ashland, and was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran where he was stationed in the South Pacific on the USS ESSEX.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Mae Fannin Griffith; four brothers, Dennis Griffith, Ennis Griffith, Ray Griffith and Ralph Griffith; one sister, Betty Jean Miller.

He is survived by one brother, Marion Griffith of Greenup; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Holt of Greenup, and Kolene Worthington of Wurtland, who were his caregivers for many years after his wife passed away in 2009; and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Clarence will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Graveside rites will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Plum Grove Cemetery in Greenup by the Rev. Jack Edwards and Elder Gary Blevins. Military rites by James L. Flannery, American Legion Post 276, of South Shore.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup.
