AMHERST, OHIO —
Velma Jane “Davie” Butcher, 81, of Amherst, Ohio, formerly of Whitehouse, passed away early Tuesday morning, Jan. 29, 2013, in New Life Hospice of St. Joseph in Lorain, Ohio, surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness.
She was born Nov. 11, 1931, in Mars, Pa., the daughter of the late Dale and Mary Gray Davidson.
She was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army and later in the U.S. Air Force. Velma had worked for several years at American Crayon and New Departure Hyatt and later retired from K-Mart. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time outdoors.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack H. Butcher, and sister, Joanne Foster.
Velma is survived by a daughter, Penny (Bill) Boesel of Amherst; two sons, John (Loretta) Butcher of West Hamlin, W.Va., and Randy (JoAnne) Butcher of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Gray and Gail Nicklas; a brother, Raymond Davidson; and nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be at noon Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Son Butcher Cemetery in Whitehouse.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at David F. Koch Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, Ohio.
