Donald R. Hughes 1950-2014

IRONTON — Donald R. Hughes, 64, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, at his residence.

The Ashland native was born March 16, 1950, the son of the late Raymond and Ethel Royce Hughes. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ruth Ferguson Hughes.

Mr. Hughes was a graduate of Paul G. Blazer High School, was an employee of Skeeto's Pizza and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Michael Hughes; a sister, Joann Runyon; three brothers, James Hughes, Carl Hughes and Leo Hughes; and a grandson, Caleb Hughes.

He is survived by a son, Donald Lee and Kim Hughes of Fairlawn, Va.; a daughter, Kristie Jackson and her companion, Bill Allen, of Kitts Hill; a son, Scott “Bub” Hughes of Ironton; a son, Chris and Lori Abrams of Coal Grove; a sister, Fern Wise of Ironton; 12 grandchildren, Troy Hughes, Katelyn Hughes, Ethan Hughes, Shayla McFann, Shamron McFann, Gabe Hughes, Cheyenne Hughes, Blane Hughes, Steven Hicks, Matthew Jackson, Cody Roberts, Kaycie Roberts; two great-grandchildren, Ashton Hughes and Autumn McFann; and special friends, Ray and Janet and everyone at Skeeto’s.

Funeral services will be at  1 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton with Sammy Cooke officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery.
