Mary Ann Vaughan-Carter - 1931-2013

ASHLAND — Mary Ann Vaughan-Carter, 82, of Ashland, passed away at her residence on Monday, June 10, 2013, with her family by her side.

She was born March 27, 1931, in Ashland, to the late Alex and Nancy Spradlin-Vaughan.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Garen Douglas Carter, in 2012.

Mary was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Catlettsburg. Mrs. Carter had a passion for animal rescue and helped many Tri-State animal shelters by providing her services when possible. She also enjoyed hobbies such as boating, fishing and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.

Left behind to mourn her passing are two daughters, Billie (Bill) Wheeler of Grove City, Ohio, and Terri (Sam) Scaff of Raceland; three grandchildren, Jason (Chrissy) Huff of Ashland, Steven (Lynn) Wheeler of Grove City and Heather (J.D.) Thomas of Ironton, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Kelsey Jae Huff, Garren Huff, Lilly Thomas and Miles Thomas; a niece, Sue Reynolds; and many friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.

Funeral services will be at noon today, June 14, 2013, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County.

Visitation for family and friends will be two hours before services today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Trixie Foundation, a no-kill animal protection organization, at P.O. Box 1, Webbville, KY 41180.
