Jewell Waddell Gillum - 1917-2013

CLARKSVILLE, TN — Jewell Gillum, 96, of Clarksville, Tenn., formerly of Ashland, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 7, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born March 17, 1917, in Elliott County, to the late Jesse Floyd Waddell and Nancy Delilah Kegley Waddell.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry W. Gillum; a grandson, Hunter Bradlee Gillum; brothers Paul, Tennyson, Jesse Alfred and Talmadge Waddell; and sisters Florence Robinson and Ann Adams.

Jewell was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who enjoyed taking care of her family. She found enjoyment by gardening, reading and quilting. She was a member of Grace Nazarene Church.

Surviving are her children, William A. Gillum and wife Robin of Catlettsburg, Doris A. Yates and husband Larry of Clarksville, Helen A. McCarty and husband Larry of Seminole, Fla., and Roy W. Gillum and wife Michelle of Lakeland, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Phyllis Shelton of Bradenton, Fla.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral for Mrs. Gillum will be at noon Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. Brother Larry Yates will offer a comforting message. Final rest will be in Kirby Flats Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.
