Robert Lee Hush, 62, of Ashland, passed away on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at his residence.
He was born in Detroit, Mich., on Sept. 6, 1950, the son of the late Sherley and Irene Preston Hush. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Tom Hush and James “Jimbo” Hush; and a sister, Janet Sue Barker.
He was a graduate of Catlettsburg High School where he played football. Robert was an equipment operator for the City of Ashland for 25 years and was a former assistant fire chief at the Catlettsburg Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a volunteer since the age of 15 years old. Robert served as a Wurtland police officer from 1985-1986. He was an Ashland Little League baseball coach for about 10 years and was also a JFL football coach and assistant coach for Verity Middle School. He won the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2005 and also served on the Ashland School Board. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served on the USS Goldsborough in 1969 and the Apollo 11 Rescue Mission.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Rebecca Sweeney Hush; children, Thomas Richard Hush, Opal Irene Hush, Jane Williams (Billy), all of Ashland, Bobby Hush of Westmoreland, W.Va., and Tonya Hush of Kenova, W.Va.; grandchildren, Patrick Williams, Morgan Hush and Nikki Williams; a great-grandson, Gavin Williams; sisters, Judy Bollmeyer of Warrensburg, Mo., Shirley Ragland of Chesapeake Bay, Md., Debra Williams of Grayson, and Pat Smith of Catlettsburg; and brothers Jack Hush of Huntington, W.Va. and Jerry Hush of Bonneau, S.C.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland with the Rev. Marty Gute officiating. Burial will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
