Elder Eury Eugene Barker - 1934-2013

OLIVE HILL — Elder Eury Eugene Barker, 79, of Olive Hill, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday afternoon, April 17, 2013, at his residence with his loving family by his side.

He was born Jan. 28, 1934, in Carter County, a son of the late James and Iva Barker Barker.

Eury became a born-again Christian in May 1969 and began preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ soon after. He was an ordained minister for 43 years at Clifty United Baptist Church and served as moderator at different churches for many years. Eury was retired from General Refactories in Hitchins.

Eury was also preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Henderson; a brother, James Barker Jr.; and a sister, Marcella Wallace.

Eury is survived by his wife of 59 years, Emily “Emma” Carroll Barker; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Terry Allen and Patty Barker, David and Jan Barker and James “Jamie” Barker, all of Olive Hill; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Darrell Eldridge of Olive Hill; nine grandchildren, Jody Henderson, Ronnie Henderson, Christopher Barker, Amanda Barker, Jason Barker, Cassandra Barker, Allison Barker, Patrick Eldridge and Tanner Eldridge; seven great-grandchildren, MaKayla Henderson Barker, Ashtin Henderson, Emilee Henderson, Kayla Richmond, Hunter Richmond, August Barker and Link Wagoner; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Earsel and Frances Barker of Olive Hill and Larry and Shirley Barker of Ashland, Ohio. He also leaves many other family members, church family and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Clifty United Baptist Church in Olive Hill by Elder Robie Baier, Elder Burnard Johnson, Elder Louie Baier and Elder J.D. Riggs. Burial will be in Carroll Cemetery on Rattlesnake Ridge.

Friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. today, April 19, 2013, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill and after 4 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013, and after 9 a.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, at the church.

Jody Henderson, Ronnie Henderson, Jason Barker, Patrick Eldridge, Tanner Eldridge and Bo Mayo will serve as pallbearers.

Donations may be sent in Eury’s memory to St. Claire Hospice, 222 Medical Circle Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
