Marion F. “Bub” Burton - 1928-2014

ASHLAND — Marion F. “Bub” Burton, 85, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland surrounded by his family.

Mr. Burton was born Oct. 25, 1928, in Grayson, a son of the late Jake and Lottie Waggoner Burton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie J. Ferguson Burton; a son, Timothy Franklin Burton; a grandson, Jeremy Michael Burton; a brother, Virgil Burton; sisters Mable Stevens, Virginia Mae Holbrook and Lorraine Bledsoe and his twin sister, Mary Williams.

 Mr. Burton was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church and United Steelworkers Local 1865. He was a Kentucky colonel and retired from AK Steel as a millwright. He served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Air Force. Bub, as he was known to everyone, was an avid bingo player and a faithful Kentucky Wildcats fan.

Survivors include a son, Michael Burton and wife Helen Carroll of Florence; a daughter, Nancy Burton Martin and husband Bob of Willoughby, Ohio; grandchildren Elisabeth Martin Shirring and husband Christopher of Westerville, Ohio, and Amanda J. Martin Kidd and husband Matthew of Painesville, Ohio; and great-grandchildren Olivia Jean Shirring of Westerville and Brynley Rebecca Kidd of Painesville.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Ashland by Dr. Ronnie Mayes. Entombment will follow.

Visitation will be after 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the mausoleum chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101 or Rose Hill Christian School, 1001 Winslow Road, Ashland, KY 41102.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland.
