Gladys Ann Thompson Young, 76, of Catlettsburg, loving mother, wife, sister and grandmother went to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013.
She was born Oct. 17, 1936, in Kenova, W.Va., a daughter of the late Robert Amos and Della Parsley Thompson.
Gladys was a member of the Jefferson Avenue Church of God where she was an avid church worker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Charles Edward Young; two brothers, William R. and Robert Amos Thompson II; and one sister, Deloris Abernathy.
She is survived by Julius “Dee” Edward Young; a son, Roger Dale and Diane Young; three daughters, Jeris Ann and James Fry, Tammy Lynn and Michael Wilson and Lisa Carole McFarland; one brother, Marshall Ray and Lois Thompson; one sister, Marcella Ann and Timothy Wolfe; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and a host of other family and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff and doctors who extended great love and care to Gladys.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at the Jefferson Avenue Church of God. Funeral services will begin immediately following the visitation at 1 p.m. at the church with Pastor Greg Tomlinson and Pastor Paul R. Farley officiating. Burial will follow in Golden Oaks Cemetery in Ashland.
Flowers will be accepted and appreciated or memorial donations may be made to Jefferson Avenue Church of God Building Fund, 2039 Jefferson Ave., Huntington, WV 25704.
