Charles E. Fosson Sr. - 1923-2014

ASHLAND — Charles E. Fosson Sr. passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014, after a lengthy illness.

He was born Feb. 14, 1923, to the late Fred and Elizabeth Fosson. His wife of 69 years, Ruby Ramey Fosson, survives, along with daughters Deborah Hester and Nancy Ingram; sons Charles E. Jr., Fred W., Robert R. and James E.; and sisters Christine and Mildred “Midge.”

Charles and Ruby first met each other as friends in grade school, and after Ruby moved to Michigan then later came to Kentucky for a visit, they met again as adults while Charles was on furlough from the Air Force. They married on Feb. 18, 1945. He and his wife celebrate 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

As a young man, Charles was an avid golfer, and throughout his life he continued to be an avid sports enthusiast. Charles was employed at Armco Steel until he retired as a locomotive repairman in the Roundhouse.

Charles served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II with a rank of staff sergeant and duties as a radio operator and gunner. He was involved in multiple bombing missions in Europe. He also served with the U.S. Air Force Transport Command and traveled to various overseas bases. No matter where Charles was on the globe, he always called his sweetheart, Ruby.

The family would like to express thanks to cardiologist Dr. John Van Deren; his family doctor, Dr. Laura Young; and the staff of Community Hospice Care Center. A special thank you to home-health nurse Gail Sexton.

The family respectfully requests a family ceremony to include all of Charles’ relatives. Son-in-law Tim Ingram will officiate funeral services at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood. Burial will be in Dixon Cemetery in Westwood.

Visitation will be after noon Saturday at the funeral home.
