FLATWOODS — Carolyn Sue Groves Withrow, 70, of Flatwoods, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness.  

Carolyn was born Sept. 13, 1942, in West Van Lear, a daughter of the late Emmett L. and Hazel Hall Groves.  

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Missi Withrow; brothers, Clyde B. Groves, Paul B. Groves and John E. Groves; and sisters, Rebecca E. Fraley and Linda L. Kiser.

Carolyn retired as a clerk from CSX Railroad and was the owner of Mimi’s Flowers in Flatwoods. The flower business was a ministry for her as she lifted the spirits of those who were grieving the loss of a loved one. She loved and experienced the Pentecostal Faith and was a loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother. She shared her heart with her husband and children everyday through her beautiful voice and loving smile.

 She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Earl “Corky” Withrow of Flatwoods; daughter Mimi Rayburn and husband James of Versailles; son Corky Withrow and fiancée Alycia Ford of Georgetown; granddaughters Candace Rayburn and Carlyn Rayburn; brother Edwin B. Groves (Treva) of Catlettsburg; sisters-in-law Linda Groves (late husband John), Pat Groves (late husband Paul), Betty Gay Nunn, Peggy Withrow (late husband Ed), Shirley Wheatley (late husband Larry) and Judy Kies. She is also survived by nieces Patty Le Blanc, Joyce Carter, Connie Thaxton, Nancy Poynter, Candy Messer, Lisa Baker, Robin Barber, Regina Maynard, Larrena Hamlin, Elizabeth Egan and Tammy Maspero; nephews John R. Groves, James B. Groves, Bob Withrow Jr., Joe Withrow, Devin Withrow, Brian Nunn, David Nunn and Edward Kies; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

The funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel by Pastor Shane Cox and Bishop James E. Rayburn. Burial will be in the Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, June 24, 2013, at the funeral home.
