Jacklyn Rudd Killen

ASHLAND — Jacklyn Rudd Killen, RN, BSN, OCN, died Sunday, May 4, 2013, in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va., from complications of COPD. She was 77 years old.

Jackie was born in Frankfort and raised in Ashland. She was known as having a passion for life and overcoming obstacles with a stubborn tenacity, Jackie died as she lived, with a dogged determination that would never recede. She died with her body completely spent and broken and clinging to life with every last fiber of her being. Well done, good and faithful servant!

Jackie worked at Holzer Medical Center for 25 years until she retired at the age of 72 as a registered nurse, a calling that defined her and for which she dedicated her spirit. Over the years she worked in pediatrics, nursery and oncology, where she was certified by the Oncology Nursing Society and Pain Management. As a pain management expert, she was one of the first pain management nurses to receive the Ohio Pain Initiative “Excellence in Pain Management Award” in 2002.

As a broken sinner she accepted a relationship with Jesus many years ago and was a charter member of New Life Lutheran Church in Gallipolis, Ohio. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters and the Oncology Nursing Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie; and her parents, Marco and Johanna Schmidt Rudd and Pauline Vowell-Eslick.

She is survived by her son, Mark Killen and his wife, Teresa; her granddaughter, Ashton; and her siblings, Johnda Sue (Al) Pintor, Jimma Ann Rudd McKendree, Ackford (Donna) Eslick, Carol (Ron) Hale and Danny Moreau. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 7, 2013, at Willis Funeral Home in Gallipolis. Graveside rites will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland by Pastor Jimmy Dale Perry.

The family will graciously accept flowers. However, you’re asked to consider donations in Jacklyn’s memory to the Cabell Huntington Hospital Children’s Hospital.
