Christopher Yates 1971-2013

ASHLAND — Christopher Earl Yates, 42, of Pekin, Ill., formerly of Ashland, departed this life to be with his Savior on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, in the presence of his family.

Chris was born March 23, 1971, in Ashland, the son of Donald R. and Janice Sue Kelly Yates of Ashland. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Raymond and Beatrice Yates and Joseph and Pearl Kelley.

Chris graduated from Boyd County High School in 1989 and was senior class president. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1994. He was employed at Caterpillar in Peoria, Ill.

Chris was an avid fan of UK basketball. No matter where Chris lived, he was always proud to tell people he was from Kentucky and UK has the greatest tradition in basketball. He also enjoyed following the Chicago Cubs and the NFL, listening to classic rock ‘n’ roll, watching superhero movies and taking care of his pets.

Chris is also survived by his wife, Tammy Lyvers Yates; his sons, Kaden and Kyler Yates; a brother, Donald R. Yates II and wife Lynette Yates; a niece, Caroline Yates; a brother-in-law, Michael Lyvers; three nephews; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, all of whom loved him.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today, April 27, 2013, at Neal Funeral Home in Catlettsburg by Pastor John Street of Ashland First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Bowling Cemetery on White’s Creek in Boyd County.

Friends and family may call after noon today at the funeral home.
