Lewis E. “Ed” Davis Jr., 88, of Ashland, passed away in the Methodist Hospital in Henderson, on Sept. 1, 2013.
He was born on Sept. 15, 1924, in Curtin, W.Va., to the late Lewis E. Davis Sr. and Elsie Fulks Davis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy Prichard Davis in 1988; brothers, Nelson and Jim Davis; and sisters, Helen Gorman and Betty Henderson.
Ed graduated from West Virginia University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in business. He was retired from Ashland Oil Inc. as a manager of Division Order Law. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in WW II. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. 35. He was an avid bowler and was in several leagues, including the Ashland Oil League. Ed was a member of First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a son, Lewis E. Davis III and wife, Cary of Lexington; daughters, the Rev. Cynthia Davis Green of Henderson, Diane Adkins (Randy) of Lexington and Cathy Pettigrew (Joe) of Corvallis, Ore.; grandchildren, Josh (Christina) Tremill, Ashley Miller (Jeremiah) Quarles, Amanda (Coleman) Marshall, Katie Davis, Emily Adkins, Evan Davis and Ian Davis; and a brother-in-law, Bill Henderson.
The funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland with the Rev. Dr. James Wofford officiating. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery.
