John Henry Hicks, 74, of Willard, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at the home of his companion, Joyce Salyers.
He was born Sept. 2, 1938, in Lawrence County, a son of the late Ossie and Viola Hill Hicks. He was retired from Laborers Local 1445 in Catlettsburg.
He was also predeceased by his wife, Sarah Bell Stevens Hicks, in 2003; a son, John Henry Hicks Jr.; three sisters, Helen Bellamy, Katherine Boring and Lenore Yonker; and a brother, James Hicks.
Also surviving are a son, Terry (Erin) Hicks of Willard; three daughters, Peggy (Gregory) Prichard of Grayson, Sarah Jane Hicks and Lisa (James) Stafford, both of Webbville; seven sisters, Sylvia Campbell of Webbville, Pauline Rose of Barboursville, W.Va., Virginia Sammons of Webbville, Belva Mobley of Columbus, Ohio, Shirley Davis of Webbville, Charlotte Sluss of Webbville and Evelyn Rice of West Jefferson, Ohio; three brothers, Lester Hicks of Grayson, Lawrence Hicks of Webbville and Gary Hicks of Fallsburg; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at noon Thursday at Malone Funeral Home by David Boggs and Gary Sparks, ministers. Burial will be in Hicks Family Cemetery.
