CARTER — Lucien Reed, 89, of Grayson, passed away Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, in Elliott Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sandy Hook.

Lucien was born Jan. 12, 1924, in Salyersville, the son of the late Orlando and Ida May Reed. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Dickerson Reed. Lucien also had a brother and sister to precede him as well.

He was the second child of five: Melvin Reed and Velma Gillespie, who are deceased, Orlando Reed Jr. of Winchester and Ray Reed of Louisville.

Lucien became a member of Salyersville Christian Church at an early age and then became a member of the Grayson First Church of Christ. He graduated from Morehead State University with an associate degree and graduated from Mayo Technical College.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force as a corporal, airplane engine mechanic and navigator. He was the owner of Western Auto in Sandy Hook for many years, and was a pipefitter with Portsmouth Local 577.

In addition to his brothers, Orlando Reed Jr. and Ray Reed, he is survived by a host of nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook by Brother Burnis Patrick. Burial will be in Elliott County Memory Gardens, with VFW Post 11428 conducting a military service.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
