ORRVILLE, OHIO — Vernon Lee Stuckey, 88, of Orrville, Ohio, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, in Wooster Community Hospital. He was surrounded by family as he passed peacefully.

Vernon was born Nov. 17, 1924, in Green Township, to the late Elmer and Clara Neuroth Stuckey. He graduated from Orrville High School in 1942. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the 5th Tactical Air Communications Squadron. He was united in marriage with Beatrice M. Derifield on Nov. 29, 1952, in Orrville.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers, George and Robert Stuckey, and a sister, Ruth Maston.

Vernon spent 54 years with the J.M. Smucker Co., including 22 years spent opening the Salinas, Calif., plant. He was a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church and Masonic Cedar Lodge 430.

Vernon will be most missed in his role as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice, formerly of Ironton; a daughter, Denise (David) Stuckey-Xander of Westerville; grandsons Jeremy, Peter and Mark Xander, all of Westerville; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, at Augsburg Lutheran Church in Orrville by Pastors Walter Jordan and David Craig. Burial with military honors will be in Paradise Brethren Church Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
