WORTHINGTON — Joyce Elaine Ramey, 87, of Worthington, passed peacefully from this life to her eternal life in the presence of family on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013.

Joyce is best remembered by loved ones as a timeless beauty of class and integrity; humble, wise and obedient to her faith in Jesus. In her words, she always had “the best children in the world,” and second only to her faith, she lived her life for her children and grandchildren.

Joyce was born Sept. 4, 1926, in Lincoln County, W.Va., to the late John and Blanch Adkins.

She worked at the Owens Illinois Glass Factory in Huntington, W.Va., prior to marrying her husband of 64 years, the late Alfred Ramey. Joyce devoted her entire life to the raising of her children, the management of her home and the charge of leading a small women’s prayer group at Worthington First Baptist Church, where she was a member.

Surviving are her two daughters, Dawn Blevins of Lloyd and Belinda (Eddie) Gumbert of Ashland; two sons, Darrell (Joyce) Ramey of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Stanley (Anna) Ramey of Raceland; a brother, William Carroll (Sonja) Adkins of Hurricane, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren, Capt. Anthony Drew (Erin) Ramey, who spent many cherished days with his mamaw and papaw, Merinda and Rebecca Ramey, Jason Blevins, Megan Fitzwater, Molly Gumbert, Ron Williams, Rhonda McHappy, Carl, Jesse, Tony, Becky and Lori Dillow and Rhonda Armstrong; and several great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at Worthington First Baptist Church by the Rev. Wayne Kuhner. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum in Ashland.

Visitation for family and friends will be after 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Evans Funeral Home in Raceland is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Greenup Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 382, Greenup, KY 41144.
