Roy E. Woods - 1936-2011

GRAYSON — Roy E. Woods, 75, of Grayson, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 7 at his home.

Mr. Woods was born in Webbville on May 12, 1936, to the late Ray and Lula Houck Woods.  

He was one of seven children. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Woods and Ralph Woods, both of Grayson. His surviving siblings include Vivian McCoy of Clinton, Tenn., Helen Kitchen of Ashland, Maggie Thompson of Webbville and James Woods of Grayson.  

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sonja Thornsbury Woods, and two children, Amanda Woods Hineman and her husband, Dan, of Raceland, and Dr. Roy E. Woods of Erlanger.  

Mr. Woods was retired from Armco Steel. He also was a retired business owner. He owned and operated Woods Market in South Shore for six years and later Woods Coin Laundry and Roy’s Car Wash in Grayson for 18 years. He was an avid NASCAR Fan and loved attending antique car shows.  

A graveside memorial service will be at noon Saturday at East Carter County Memory Gardens in Grayson by John Sergent.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Saturday at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson.

The family has requested memorial contributions be sent to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
