Lazear Funeral Home
Raymond L. Whitley, 83, of Rush, passed away Sunday evening in Ashland.
He was a retired welder at ACF Industries in Huntington and a veteran of the U.S. Army who served during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith “Trecie” Thacker; his father, Hiram “Todd”; his mother, Clara Belle Locey; his sister, Catherine Rigsby; and a brother, Joe.
He is survived by two sons, Raymond R. (Angie) of Rush and David H. (Chris) of Ashland; four grandchildren, Raymond Todd of Key West, Fla., Rachael of Morgantown, W.Va., Trisha (Michael) Robinson of Morehead and Allison of Ashland; two brothers, Willard (Sue) of Alvin, Texas, and Ernie (Pat) of LaGrange, Texas; a sister, Jennie Dowdy of Ocklawaha, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn of Rush.
He had a very special group of friends from Rosie’s that provided stories, smiles and a fair share of shenanigans. Whether he was berry picking on ridges, scouting for deer from a back road or pickin’ the guitar at campgrounds, he never met a friend he didn’t consider to be family. Raymond was easy to meet and hard to forget, and believed in paying his own way, owing nobody. For these reasons, he will be leaving an unfillable void in the lives of those closest to him.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
