Lessie R. 'Les' Menshouse, 75, of Westwood, husband of Rosella King Menshouse, died Sunday evening, Dec. 30, 2012, at his home following an extended illness.
Les was born June 1, 1937, in Ashland, a son of the late Lewis and Hattie Williams Menshouse.
He was retired from the West Processing Department of AK Steel and fished the waters of Greenbo Lake every opportunity he could. Les was a top notch baseball player in the former Coca Cola League with a batting average of .527 and also had the opportunity to participate in the 1956 Cincinnati Reds Training Camp. Les also enjoyed all his years coaching his children and multitudes of other kids as head coach of The Tommies baseball team.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by three brothers, Melvin, Earl, and Elmer Menshouse; and three sisters, Ann Rowland, Mary Harris, and Kelly Ritchie.
Surviving in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Rebecca Lynn Thompson-Menshouse; and a son, Louie Menshouse and wife, Earlene all of Westwood; two brothers, including his twin brother, Jessie Menshouse of Westwood, and Arvil Menshouse of Wurtland; four sisters, Irene Spradlin, Jeanie Eldridge, Hattie McConnell, all of Westwood, and Lyda Belle Ferguson of Indiana; three grandchildren, Joshua Robert Wilkes and his wife Mary of Flatwoods, Jennifer Rae Wilkes & Keith Allen Duncan of Ashland, and Jarrod Wade Menshouse of Westwood; three step-grandchildren, Cheyenne Thompson, Cody Thompson, and most recent the addition of Beckham Mitchell Meade all of Westwood. He also leaves behind his precious dog Yazzy. Les will be missed and a huge void has been left for all that knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Preston Family Funeral Home.
