James Watson “Big Jim” Thacker - 1941-2012

RUSH — James Watson “Big Jim” Thacker, 70, of Rush, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012, in Cabell-Huntington Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova, W.Va., by the Rev. Scott Byard. Burial will be in Dock’s Creek Cemetery in Kenova.

Jim was born May 5, 1941, in Wayne County, W.Va., a son of the late Charles Thacker and Greetis Moler Thacker Rife.

Jim was an avid bowler and enjoyed all sports, especially baseball. He was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the VFW of Long Beach, Calif. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Thacker, and his stepdad, William Rife.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Patty Sue Thacker; a son, James Michael Thacker of Seattle, Wash.; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry Lynn Ripley (Bruce) of Portland, Ore.; three brothers, Bobby Thacker of Columbus, Ohio, David Thacker of Cottage Grove, Ore., and Charles Thacker of Columbus; and five grandchildren, Christine, Michelle and Katherine Ripley and Noah and Adam Thacker.

Friends may call an hour before services at the funeral home.
