Sarah Norris 1910-2013

ASHLAND — Sarah Norris, 102, of Ashland, passed away April 25, 2013, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility in Ashland.

She was born Nov. 11, 1910, at Blaine, to the late Meredith and Della Boggs Edwards.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Norris; a daughter, Louise Harmon; sons Leonard Norris, Emmet Norris Jr., Berchie Norris, Freddy Allen Norris and Billy Ray Norris; and four grandchildren.  

She started working at age 14 in the oilfields and at a boarding house. Throughout her life she worked in restaurants and in Columbus, Ohio, at the government depot, which sent parts across in World War II. She was married at age 15 and spent the rest of her life as a devoted homemaker. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Leoda White and husband Robert of Dayton, Ohio; a sister, Irene Coonrod of Greenfield, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many, many friends.  

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by Dr. C.J. Adkins. Burial will be in Yatesville Memorial Gardens in Louisa.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home .

Friends may make contributions in her memory to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
